A job interview is one of the most nerve-wrecking experiences any independent woman has ever had. You want to impress them but not go overboard. You want to stay humble and grounded but do not want to undersell your capabilities. You want to look eager to work but not desperate for just any kind.
Definitely, one thing comes into mind first before all of this push and pull forces of emotions happen, what should you wear to a job interview?
An outfit to a job interview is important as it immediately what personality you have, how serious you are about this job and what knowledge do you have of it.
Obviously, if you are applying for a high profile business corporation and you show up with un-ironed shirt, slacks and slouchy blazer, you will definitely be at the bottom of the Human Resources pile! Coming in wearing a sloppy ensemble showed that you did not go to the interview with a plan. Not having a plan means that there is no apparent goal to be reached. No apparent goal to be reached means that getting the job is NOT your goal.
We definitely do not want that impression for a job interview. It defies the purpose. So what do you wear in a job interview?
SOMETHING CLASSY AND POLISHED
You do not need to dish out your credit card and buy the most expensive slacks, trousers, blazers, vests, oxford shirts and so on. You also do not need to scrimp for quality either. You just need a good quality, polished looking corporate attire pieces.
Invest in a white oxford shirt, black blazer, white skinny belt, black straight cut with perfect crease slacks and black pumps with chunky heels. This is one of the most polished and sophisticated business wear ensemble for a job interview. It’s not too much but it’s not underwhelming either.
This ensemble shows how focused, determined and grounded you are when it comes to a job.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be only that way, but in choosing the major pieces of your job interview outfit, make sure that you maintain a sense of simple sophistication.
ADD A TOUCH OF ONE INTERESTING PIECE
This is where accessories come in. Now that you have a blank slate of an outfit for your job interview, what you need is something that they will remember you with.
I am not talking about an overly decorated hat or an ingenious, immature necktie. I am talking about a timeless sophisticated piece that represents you.
Hippie at heart? Try a nice colorful ceramic floral brooch placed at the lapel of your coat.
Rocker chic? Put on an oversized silver masculine watch on your wrist or a punch of replace your usual business belt with a red skinny one.
Girly girl? The long pearl necklaces are your best bet. Put it under the collar of your oxford shirt and let it become the center focus of your outfit.
Glamazon? For the glamour girls, a nice sparkling something is what you need. Go for thin, minimalist gold bangles that you can layer on either hand.
Preppy? Look for a plaid vest that you can slip your oxford shirt in. Tuck the shirt in but leave the vest loose. Cover with a blazer and your personality is infused.
PUT IT ALL IN THE BAG
You may think that interviewers do not notice everything, but it is still their job to notice EVERYTHING. One of which is how you keep yourself organized. How you are organized now in applying for work, is definitely a preview of how organized you are when you are hired.
You may find this surprising but your bag is the reflection of how you keep your life organized in general. Why? This is where we place everything and get everything for our daily needs. That is why bags are so numerous in types, designs, materials and style. It is to match with the perfect lifestyle and way or organization. It becomes a representation of the person. Look at your bag right now and look at your room. Most often than not, how your bag looks like is how your room looks like too.
And so, for a job interview, PLACE ALL OF YOUR THINGS inside the bag that is well kept and organized. Nothing says professionalism than an organized bag.
